Spotty baking frenzy in aid of Children in Need

A local coffee shop raised over £190 for Children in Need on Friday 18th November through the sale of spotty cakes and donations.

The Bay Brasserie, located within the Riviera International Centre ran their bake sale on Friday and over the weekend to raise as much funds as possible for the cause.

Bay Brasserie Supervisor Naomi Morris said “Staff wore yellow and spotty clothing to show our collective support of the cause plus the Staff also donated all of their tips which were raised from our Australian Night on Friday.”

Children in Need’s mission is to help change the lives of thousands of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. The first appeal started with a 5 minute broadcast in 1927 which raised £1,143. This year an astonishing £18,098,199 has been raised for BBC Children in Need with donations still being received.

The first televised Children in Need appeal was in 1955 with the 'Children's Hour Christmas Appeal', presented by Sooty and Harry Corbett. The Christmas Day Appeals continued on TV and radio right up until 1979. In 1980 the appeal was broadcast for the first time in a new telethon format, hosted by Terry Wogan, Sue Lawley and Esther Rantzen. Since then the total appeal has raised over £600 million.
