Riviera Centre dresses to impress for Red Nose Day
On Friday 18th March the Riviera International Centre embraced all things red for Red Nose Day in support of Comic Relief. The Centre was decorated with red decorations and Staff were encouraged to wear red with the added bonus of a luxury spa prize awarded to the person who went to the greatest effort. The competition was judged by Kirsty Evans; the Riviera Centre’s newly appointed Sales Executive who awarded Darren Mundy; Halls Assistant at the Centre with the prize. Darren was dressed from head to toe in a red lycra outfit in full support of the cause.
"I've always been a big supporter of Comic Relief and its intentions to raise money through laughter, said Darren. I made the most of our wear red day to make both my colleagues and customers chuckle - my reasoning was the more laughter we prompted the more money we would raise!"
In total £67.84 was raised for Comic Relief which included donations received from customers, the sale of red cakes in the Centre's in-house coffee shop; the Bay Brasserie over the course of two days, and money received from an organised 'strike a pose' competition. This competition involved snapshots of various celebrities striking a pose, and participants were encouraged to place a £2 bet on whichever celebrity they believed to have won the posing competition. The pre-determined winning celebrity was revealed as Gok Wan and the lucky participant Louise Leftwich who had selected Gok Wan was awarded a 3 course sunday lunch voucher for two in the Bay Brasserie.
"The strike a pose competition was a fundraising idea suggested by Red Nose Day organisers, said Jenny Thompson, Operations Managers at the Centre."The suggested prize for the winner was 50% of the money raised from participants taking part in the competition, however we wanted to donate 100% of the proceeds so we decided to award a sunday lunch voucher instead. "Although Comic Relief only tends to make the headlines once a year for Red Nose Day, the Charity actually works around the clock 365 days a year. And since extreme poverty around the world is so prevalent we were all passionate that this was a cause well worth supporting.”
