Lifetime Achievement Award: Barry Cole

RIVIERA International Conference Centre boss Barry Cole was met with a special award and a standing ovation.

Mr Cole received the first lifetime achievement award which was a surprise at the excellence awards.

Host Chris Hargreaves told the crowd: "Having spent 50 years in the tourism industry, he has shown tremendous leadership and passion in every role.

"Well liked and respected, he has demonstrated his skills at developing people and creating a culture of excellence in everything.

"Highly articulate with a sharp intellect, he always manages to 'cut to the chase' in challenging business issues. He is a gifted leader, consummate professional and a perfect gentleman."

Herald Express editor Jim Parker presented him with the award saying he had been a 'bastion of the business community'.

Mr Parker said: "Flamboyant, determined, enthusiastic, inspiring, always with a smile on his face and always battling to drive the Bay and his business forward.

"I can think of nobody more deserving of this special lifetime achievement award than the one and only Barry 'the bow tie' Cole."

Mr Cole said: "Without the support of all my staff here I would not have any reputation at all. This award is for them."
