Importance of Swimming
Summer is on its way and it’s the perfect time for children to learn how to swim!
Here’s our top 5 reasons why we believe everyone should learn to swim:
1. Safety
2. Fun
3. To be Healthy
4. Opportunity
5. Life Long Skill
Safety
The most important reason is swimming is the only sport which can save your life! The ability to swim is a life-saving skill and teaches you how to survive in water.
Fun
Swimming is a fantastic activity for children and adults of all ages. The Waves Leisure Pool is heated to a lovely 30°C with a unique sloping floor, which is perfect for beginners and young children gaining confidence in the water. The flume, wave machine and water-play activity centre provide fun for all the family to enjoy. We can even do swimming birthday parties, which the children love.
To be Healthy
Swimming provides you with so many health benefits. Colin Pemberton, Leisure Manager at the RICC said “Swimming is a fantastic way to keep healthy and provides an all-over body workout. It helps build endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness whilst being a low impact sport”.
Opportunity
Learning to swim can lead to so many other opportunities. Children who enjoy swimming may take part in competitive or team swimming. It also provides you with the chance to take part in some other fantastic sports, such as Scuba Diving, Surfing, Kayaking or even Wakeboarding.
Life Long Skill
Once you have learnt to swim it is something that stays with you. Swimming is a leisure activity that can be enjoyed by everyone at any age, whether you’re on holiday with family or if you just want to relax.
