Fitness Outweighs Recession
Despite reports of the continuing downturn of the economy, budget cutbacks and rising inflation, Torquay gym; Lifestyle Health & Fitness Suite has received their highest Membership levels for 3 years, proving that for many, getting fit has been given priority in 2011.
"A regular fitness regime is vital to living and sustaining a healthy lifestyle, said Colin Pemberton, Lifestyle Health & Fitness Suite Manager. “Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins which are linked to stress reduction, mood and immune system enhancement as well as boosting energy levels. All of which are particularly essential during the winter months. Outdoor exercising can also be particularly uninviting during the winter with dark, cold nights; however a gym offers a safe, controlled environment that is more adaptable to fit into hectic lifestyles."
During December and January Lifestyle promoted their recession busting 20% discount off all Memberships and this combined with a 10 day trial for £10 that is on offer all year round is a major contributor to the surge in numbers. "New visitors can often be hesitant as to whether a gym exercise regime is suitable for them and their lifestyle, said Colin. "And so the trial offers them a chance to find this out without any commitments or obligations."
January has also seen the launch of a new Zumba Class and an overall rise in numbers taking part in Aerobic Classes at Lifestyle Health & Fitness Suite. Lifestyle have been a little slow to jump on the band wagon for Zumba, however popularity for the class remains high with the first two classes being fully booked. "We have received a larger take-up for this Class than expected and so we have now already launched a second Zumba Class into our weekly schedule," said Colin.
Zumba is a Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance workout which incorporates a fusion of Latin and International music. Since its inception in 2001, Zumba has grown to become one of the world's most popular fitness programmes with more than 10 million people taking classes in over 90,000 locations across more than 110 countries. Zumba has been designed to be fun and yet the health benefits are still plentiful when undertaken regularly.
"Exercise needn't be seen as a chore as there are so many different forms that can be selected from, said Colin. "And as no price can be placed on your health we hope that those who have already started on their journey to leading a healthier lifestyle remain inspired so they can continue to reap the benefits."
