Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra revisits RICC after 25 years

Crowds at the Riviera International Centre have once again been treated to the sounds of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) who had originally performed during the Centre’s Opening Ceremony in May 1987.

The performance took place on Friday 11th January and was a celebration of the ‘Waltz King’ Johann Strauss and his sparkling legacy. The evening was hosted by conductor Owain Arwel Hughes who was also the very same conductor during the Centre’s Opening Ceremony some 25 years ago.

“The BSO is delighted to have received such a warm welcome from the audience at its New Year Viennese concert at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay. It was a popular return for the musicians and the Orchestra has every intention of returning to the town very soon,” said Jacky Thorne Head of Communications at Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The performance centred around the sounds of nineteenth century Vienna which included You Waltz from Die Fledermaus, Tritsch – Tratsch and Thunder & Lightening Polkas, and the Blue Danube among others.

“The tickets were excellent value for money with tickets starting at just £10 and we were delighted at the high turnout of guests to the performance, said Simon Jolly General Manager at the Riviera International Centre. “Our large auditorium with its inbuilt stage is an ideal venue for such a performance so we look forward to BSO’s return.”
