Bay Brasserie Spices Up January
January can often be a depressing time for many once the Christmas festivities have passed. To combat the winter blues, Torquay restaurant; the Bay Brasserie, has chosen to feature Mexico for their 1st Theme Night of 2011.
"Mexico is known for its warm climate as well as its hot and spicy food, said Steve Vosper, Bay Brasserie Shift Leader. "Our menu reflects Mexico's finest traditional dishes and we have incorporated a spice rating ranging from the mild to the mind blowing!"
The Mexican Night also ties in with the Mexican religious festival Dia de la Candelaria which takes place on Friday 2nd February. This festival is celebrated nationally with dance, food and music to mark the passing of winter as it highlights the mid-way point between the winter solstice and spring equinox.
Family is still the building block of the Mexican society and there is a deep rooted connection between important dates such as religious holidays and families coming together to break bread.
“Our Theme Nights are designed to create opportunities for families and friends to celebrate a new experience together that they could only otherwise share by travelling half way around the world," said Steve.
Mexican food history shows that Mexico was responsible for introducing peanuts, vanilla, beans, coconuts, tomatoes and chocolate to the world. But perhaps the most famous products of the Mexican cuisine are their desserts which combine hot and sweet elements to produce a unique taste. This is reflected on the menu with 'espuma de chocolate con chilli' a tantalising chocolate and chilli torte served with cayenne whipped cream.
Other dishes on the menu include 'los pimientos de jalapeño;' Jalapeño peppers stuffed with cream cheese, coated in breadcrumbs, deep fried and served with a garlic mayo dip to start, and 'tostadas con carne de burro picosa;’ warm crisp taco shells served with beef chilli, grated cheese, lettuce, guacamole, salsa and sour cream for main.
The Mexican Theme Night will take place on Saturday 29th January and popularity for these Theme Nights continues to remain as high as ever with this now being their 5th consecutive Theme Night to sell out.
Next on the Bay Brasserie's theme night calendar is their Valentine’s Weekend, followed by their Caribbean Night on Friday 18th March. For further details visit www.baybrasserie.co.uk or call 01803 206337.
